About the proposed lease

Council is seeking feedback from the community about a proposed 5+5 years lease for the Tea Tree Gully Amateur Swimming Club.

The Tea Tree Gully Amateur Swimming Club was established in 1969. It offers swimming activities at Waterworld Aquatic Centre, located at Modbury Sports Area in Ridgehaven, during its summer season. The club has an estimated 100 members as of 2023/2024 and is affiliated with Swimming SA.

If approved, the proposal would mean Tea Tree Gully Amateur Swimming Club will be granted a 5-year lease, with an option for a 5-year renewal extension at the sole discretion of Council.

A lease would grant the Tea Tree Gully Amateur Swimming Club continued exclusive use of the clubroom (refer to map in the next tab). Although the club’s swimming activities primarily occur during Waterworld’s summer season, the clubroom is accessible to the swim club year-round. Use of Waterworld pools, including lane hire, is arranged directly with Waterworld staff and is separate from this lease agreement.

The proposed lease fee is expected to be similar to the current lease fee ($1,494 per year) and would be determined by the subsidy criteria within Council’s Leases and Licences for Sporting and Community Organisations Policy.

The Tea Tree Gully Amateur Swimming Club has been a responsible tenant who has maintained the facility to a good standard and is a respected community organisation in the City of Tea Tree Gully.
