Background

Lake View Reserve is located between Lake View Crescent and Valley View Drive, in Highbury.

Council’s Open Space Asset Management Plan identifies Lake View Reserve as a ‘local’ level playspace which primarily caters for people living within walking distance of the play area. The reserve includes features such as:
  • playground and shade sails
  • shelter, picnic setting, and other benches
  • basketball ½ court
  • football goals
  • footpath, irrigated turf and established trees.

Installation of fence and bollards

Council recently installed a fence on the Lake View Crescent boundary and bollards on the Valley View Drive boundary of Lake View Reserve.

The fence installation was considered in response to safety concerns raised by residents related to playing sports at the reserve and balls rolling on to the road. The fence and bollards also addressed concerns of vehicles being driven onto the reserve, including the use of car headlights to light the basketball area at night.

The fence is 1 metre high and made of black chain mesh. The bollards are made of recycled solid plastic, and are approximately 1 metre high and placed at 1.5 metre intervals (refer to images at the bottom of this page).

Council staff recently met with a group of local residents onsite and they shared their views on the fence. The residents initially requested the removal of the fence, however they agreed that before any action is taken and further cost expended, it is important to understand the broader views of nearby residents and users of the reserve and playspace.

Share your feedback

Council would now like to hear from local residents and users of Lake View Reserve and playspace, to better understand:

  • How you currently use the reserve and playspace
  • Your views on the fence and bollards, and what the next steps should be

If Council decide to remove the fence and/or bollards, the materials will be able to be recovered and reused at another location in future, however there would be a cost for removal and remediation of any impact to the turf on site.

Feedback received will be considered as part of the decision-making process for the fence and bollards at Lake View Reserve. Those who provide feedback will be informed of any decisions.

You can provide your feedback through the online feedback form, or the other options listed at the bottom of this page.
